What in the world?
I can't believe I haven't blogged for a month. For shame.
I'm not going to make this lengthy....just a short review of my month.
*scrapping my butt off to get CHA stuff ready and my class ready to teach there (SRM/Cosmo Cricket)
*surgery in early June (which was a very simple procedure, quick and easy recovery, thank you very much) and then 2 weeks off from work to "recover" because I wasn't supposed to lift anything over 10 pounds for 2 weeks and basically lifting and pushing (a girl in a wheelchair/standing frame) is what I do at work). It was a lovely break. Aside from the guilt of feeling great and not being at work...it was lovely and couldn't have come at a better time.
*Egan hurt his foot again but just a growth plate injury this time, not a break. Ironically, the very same bone as the break a few months ago. A cast for a week and now he's good as new.
*Flights, condos, van rentals, etc are all booked for CHA/Disneyworld!! I cannot tell you how excited everyone is around here. It's hard to sleep at night.
*Mica had softball this season....at least 2 nights and more often 3-4 nights/days a week. She really turned it on 1/2-way through the season and she's really coming into her own as a pitcher. Her windmill is deadly. She's got a few years of learning to go to be really consistent but if she continues to be as excited about it as she is right now.....she'll do very well.
*Also softball....I was on the Exec so I had fundraising to manage and a tournament to plan - this is, by the way - way out of my box and while the actual tasks were fun....the meetings were not so I'm unsure about staying on the committee.
I think that's it.
I still can't believe it's been a month!! I apologize and will try to keep up better this summer!

Out with the Old....in with the MOOOO
Here's my trusty Fiskars Paper Trimmer....I've had it since the day I started card-making/scrapbooking. It has cut ZILLIONS of things for me including my Clear Scraps Acrylic. It's been in numerous totes, gone to conferences and overnighters and even traveled across the country in my van cutting scraps into card-sized usable pieces. It's been loved for nearly 7 years. And still going strong, I might add....I use it daily.
BUT Today, on my driveway when I got home from work...was the biggest box of goodies from my Clear Scraps team and in among the other yummies from places like Hambly, My Little Shoebox, my Stamp BOX, Moxxie, Scor-Pal, MuddPuddles sand, On the Dot and a few others I'm sure I've forgotten....was this Beauteous Paper Cutter from Purple Cows. I have drooled over this cutter since it first came out, not ever able to justify buying it when my Fiskars was perfectly good. I can't wait to make my first cut on it - I had to blog about it first, I was so excited. I love the guillitine side - I've never had one of those, except at school in the workroom (I'm an EA).
Anyway....thanks for letting me share - and I'll be back with some reviews of my new cutter.

I (heart) Dr. Seuss
We had a conversation around the supper table the other night about who our favourite authors are. I was pleased that all 3 of our kids had authors they regularaly looked for in the library and that they knew their names and where to find them. I consider it an enormous blessing that all 3 kids are readers!! I have a few favourites too - depending on what I'm in the mood for. Francine Rivers is still one of my all-time favourite Christian authors. James Patterson & Jeffrey Deaver for suspense/crime. Nicholas Sparks for a sappy love story. And always - for as long as I can remember, I've loved Dr. Seuss. I love the lyrical writing, the deeper hidden messages (the Horton books in particular), I love all of it.
I just found this short story/poem by Dr. Seuss that I didn't know existed....and I laughed out loud the first time (and second and third time) I read it....thought I'd share, especially now just in the wake of Mother's Day. Enjoy:

Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons, and she named them all Dave?

This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'

I splurged this week and bought scrapbook paper. I generally don't - I have a stash a mile high to use up....but who could resist the cutsie creatures in the DCWV Green Stack. The skunk was calling my name. And just looking at them made me start thinking in puns :)Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms out there!

Paper Creations magazine RAK: ETA the Winner - Dishtowel Dame
See that "Go Green! - Toad-ily Inspired Cards" caption on the front of this magazine? It's me. I'm "Go Green!!" I submitted a toad card to this magazine and they liked it and then we came up with an idea to do a whole bunch of toad/frog cards....and they loved and published everything I made for them!! A 6-page spread. It's almost too exciting for me!!!!!
And I have 2 copies. One for me...and one for you. Post on here with a Green-idea of your own....something you do to recycle, or a toad or frog caption/poem, or whatever. I'll pick a random post number in 2 weeks and send you this magazine, and maybe a little treat :)

NSD my Stamp BOX Blog Hop
Welcome to the first stop on your National Scrapbooking Day card & sketch Blog hop by my Stamp BOX! If you're just stumbling onto my blog by 'accident'....thanks....and you may wanna read the details of the blog hop here.
Right off the hop (no pun intended) I have a confession to make. I don't do sketches. At all. I don't make them and I don't use them. Ok, maybe not At all....I have done a couple as challenges in my lifetime, but not in my everyday scrapbooking and cardmaking. So for this card that I've made, I drew out a template for you, and if you want a printable template for this card, you can find one here at Mirkwood designs.
This is a tie-front card that measures 5" x 5" and I've used a circle stamp from the Seal It set to make a sort of button on an SEI die-cut sticker. The stamps says: "You are perfect. Stay the way you are. True to yourself always." I punched holes through the stickers and the front flaps of my card and tied it with a crisp piece of white twill. To write on, I've matted another SEI die-cut sticker and glued it on the inside of the card. Some of it is showing, but there's enough of it hidden if I want to write a more personal message.

and here's the template I promised.....please forgive my lame attempt :)Quick instructions:
Cut your double-sided patterned paper 5" x 10"; score 2.5" from each end trim these ends into circles (trace something circular on there or eyeball-it, like I do). Punch holes in the rounded ends of your 1/2-circle flaps; add stamped "button" stickers with a hole punched in them, and tie shut with a ribbon.
